We thought with the addition of another baby the transition would be hardest on Bella. She was the baby and still did many baby things like sleep in a crib and take a pacifier. So we slowly tried to change these things this summer so it wouldn't be all at once. At the beginning of the summer as soon as we were home from our vacations. We took away the pacifier. She only had it during naps and bedtime, but she loved it! She would run to bed and be so happy and stick it in her mouth and smile and blow kisses and then not make a peep. It was going to be bitter sweet taking it away. We tried the old cutting it trick. She did say oh it is broke! but then try and suck on it then get mad then throw it out and then cry for it then throw it out again because it was broken. it was a never ending cycle of awfulness. We did that for a few days then finally I said if it is broken should we throw it away? Surprisingly she said yes!!! so She put it in the trash! Then that night at bed she asked for it I reminded her it was in the trash and she was cool with it. After a while she whimpered a bit but them fine. Wish we would have done that before.
The next change was out of her crib. Once again she loved her crib, she never tried to climb out or anything. But I wanted the choice to be hers to go to a big girl bed and not because the new baby needed her bed. So we talked up big girl beds and she was so excited. So one day we took it down put down a mattress on the ground to start with so she wouldn't fall (she did not like the bed rails) She loved her big girl bed and pink sheets. Every time some one came to the house she would want to show them the big girl bed. She always had to have some of her babies in the bed with her and it was just so cute! it was particular ones and they had to be on specific sides and she always remembered what ones where. She also has to have this specific (hot) blanket and she will cry and have you come in her room if her toes come out of the blanket.... OCD... maybe.
